Who we are
We believe there is only one God. God is Love and the eternal Creator of all that there is. God exists as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, each possessing all the attributes of deity.
We believe that Jesus is God’s Son who came to earth, was crucified, and resurrected.
We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and is, therefore, the final authority for our understanding of God and life.
We believe that God sent Jesus to live on earth. Jesus offered himself as the perfect and ultimate sacrifice for the sin that separates us from God.
We believe that salvation is a free gift. It comes only by undeserved mercy through trust in Christ’s sacrificial death. It brings us from spiritual death to a new life in God’s Spirit. We accept and confess what Christ has done to reconcile us verbally, in immersion, and in a life of daily obedience to God.
We believe that the church is the body of Christ on earth and that the Holy Spirit, who dwells in each Christian, empowers the church to reach those who are separated from God. We practice gathering weekly for congregational singing, prayer, the study of the Bible, and the sharing of bread and juice in remembrance of Jesus’ body and blood given for us.
Did this church used to be called Glendale Church of Christ?
Yes it did! You might have known us under that name years ago, or seen it listed somewhere online. Our congregation was founded as Glendale Church of Christ in 1923,
part of the tradition of Restoration Movement churches, and met under that name for nine decades.
Our fellowship still reflects many aspects of those original roots:
We view scripture as the primary guide for our congregation and our individual lives;
Our congregation is independently funded and led;
We practice baptism;
We share in communion every time we gather; and
We prioritize congregational worship (and love a good sung harmony).
Our desire to know God more clearly and reflect the Kingdom of God on Earth more fully has guided our leaders toward change over the years. Participation in our services, preaching, and leadership is now inclusive of all our members, and the styles of music we use in worship have expanded. Our current membership still includes many people whose faith history includes institutions connected to the churches of Christ, such as Pepperdine and other universities, but a majority of our members' religious journeys began in other faith communities.
As we continue to serve God and love our neighbors in this community into a second century, we welcome the opportunity to be a home in LA for you, whether you're familiar with those traditions or are looking to build new ones.
